Nebraska WWII Fatal Crash Site # 50

Cordova
September 14, 1944

A formation of five P-47's were practicing formation flying near Cordova. During a steep dive, it is believed that the pilot of one P-47D (42-28253) possibly blacked out and lost control of his plane which struck the ground instantly killing him.

Crew Member

This site was investigated on April 1, 2007. Evidence was found in a cultivated field with a metal detector that proved the exact location of the crash.

Scattered wreckage was found in this area to confirm the site.
