Nebraska WWII Fatal Crash Site # 47
August 18, 1944
A group of P-47's were doing formation training near the town of Daykin when one P-47D (42-22579) left the formation due to engine failure. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a cornfield, but came down at a steep angle. The left wing struck the ground and cartwheeled the plane which killed the pilot.
This site was investigated on November 13, 2007. The general area is known by eyewitness statements, but the exact site of the crash could not be found.
Somewhere out in this cornfield is the crash site.
