Nebraska WWII Fatal Crash Site # 19

Hyannis
December 1, 1943

Five members of a C-53 (42-15547) had left the Alliance Army Air Field and were en route to the North Platte area for a simulated instrument flight. For unknown reasons the plane crashed into the Sandhills south of Hyannis killing all occupants. The wreckage was found the next day by search planes from Alliance with the assistance of local ranchers on the ground.

This site was visited on May 18, 2007, with the assistance of a local rancher who was an eyewitness to the crash who aided in finding evidence of the exact location in the hills with a metal detector.
