Nebraska WWII Fatal Non-Crash Site # 4

Lincoln AAF
June 13, 1945

This is a non-crash accident involving two pilots, an instructor and a student, who were walking on the apron at the Lincoln Army Air Field toward their plane. Many planes in the area were revving up their engines and there was considerable noise. As they walked across the apron an AT-6 (41-15980) was taxiing on the apron and coming toward the two airmen who had their backs to the plane. Due to the noise they did not hear the plane coming from behind. The pilot in the taxiing AT-6 did not see the airmen on the apron and ran into them. The instructor pilot was killed by the propeller and thrown into the student who was knocked to the side and survived.
