Nebraska WWII Fatal Crash Site # 55

Pleasant Dale
May 3, 1945

Two airmen in a AT-6B (41-17168) trainer were flying near Pleasant Dale when their plane went out of control, crashed and killed both occupants. Witnesses said the plane was seen flying fast and at a lower than specified altitude prior to the crash. The cause of the crash was unknown, but it is believed that the pilots were exhibiting flying skills that were not authorized that resulted in the crash.

This site was visited on January 6, 2007, along with the assistance of a local landowner who remembered the crash site, evidence of the exact location was found in a pasture by using a metal detector.



This eyewitness is believed to be the last person who could have identified the crash site.
