Nebraska WWII Fatal Crash Site # 28

April 10, 1944

A female WASP (Women's Air Service Pilot) along with her male pilot instructor where flying from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Grand Island where the WASP would practice landings and then fly to do the same at other air fields. During a light rain something caused the plane to lose control where it then came down and struck the ground at a high rate of speed killing both pilots instantly.

Crew Members

The site was visited on March 10, 2007, along with the landowner. The landowner identified the site of the crash and physical evidence was found to pinpoint the exact location by using a metal detector and by the visible indentation in the ground.

A slight depression is still visible where the plane struck the ground.
