P-47 Crash Sites

The P-47 "Thunderbolt" fighter was the most prevalent plane to crash in Nebraska during WWII that involved a fatality. The number of incidents of any kind at the Bruning Army Air Field alone numbered over 50 with just this type of aircraft. Many pilots crash-landed or bailed out of other planes which were not involved in fatalities. There were also P-47's involved with incidents at the Ainsworth AAF and Scribner AAF. All of the deaths, with the exception of two airmen from Ainsworth, originated from the Bruning AAF.
